Last Friday morning, we were part of a Counter Culture coffee cupping in D.C. I [Christy] learned that the process of cupping is a lot like the elements that make up a piece of artwork, such as, the value, texture, color, and shape. In coffee cupping, the elements to be examined are fragrance, aroma, break, brightness, flavor, body and aftertaste. And just like in art, everyone interprets coffee a little differently. For instance, take the element of flavor. Our fellow coffee slurpers (slurping loudly is required to be a really good cupper) mentioned hints of barbecue, lime, dates, rooibos, berries (to name a few) in just one blend. Whereas, I, found that it tasted a lot like raisins and toffee.
Our instructor, Faith, tweeted our family pic (below). Here's what she tweeted! "Jadon (our youngest cupper to date) enjoying the Nueva Llusta from Bolivia Counter Culture Coffee #raisethemright #teachtemyoung."
