The Matias Post: Delaware Trip

Today marks the start of The Matias Post, our family blog. Our "front page" news will, more often than not, involve our favorite little man, Jadon Ryder, who joined our family in January of 2012. And we'd also like to share other interests related to travel, music, recipes, espresso, home-improvement ideas and life lessons.

So, let us start by including one of our favorite travel spots on Delaware's shore. We went last week to belatedly honor our 5-year wedding anniversary (which was in April) and to show Jadon the ocean for the first time. We arrived at Bethany Beach the week coastal shops were re-opening for the season. Thankfully, the frozen custard shops re-opened the second day we were in town!

To our disappointment, we found out our favorite hole-in-the-wall fish place was bought out by someone new, so we decided to try out Go Brit! Fish & Chips instead which proved to be a great find. Next time we'll buy one fish n chips and one fish filet, since the delicious hand-cut chips were enough for two. Go Fish! certainly would be Gordon Ramsey-approved. The fish tasted fresh and the decor looked like one of his re-done restaurants straight from Kitchen Nightmares.

A few highlights of our 2-day trip:

The Holiday Inn of Bethany Beach left us a 5-year wedding anniversary card. Great friendly staff. And great pancakes for breakfast!
La Hacienda Mexican restaurant, Ocean City, MD serves delicious enchiladas and, much to Christy's delight, has a resident outdoor cat.
Tax-free outlet shopping! We found some amazing deals at Gap Outlet, including Jadon's navy hat in the pics below.
Indian Island Life-Saving Station (housed heroic men who saved lives before the U.S. Coast Guard existed).
Bethany Beach was windy and a bit chilly, but we managed to get a few pics.
